The Storys
Guinness World Records has crowned a 30-year-old Portuguese dog the world’s oldest dog ever, breaking a century-old record
Bobi is a purebred Rafeiro do Alentejo, a breed with a 12- to 14-year lifespan on average.
Australia’s Bluey, who passed away in 1939 at the age of 29 years and 5 months, was the previous oldest dog ever.
Bobi turned 30 on February 1 and is believed to be healthy for his age.
According to Guinness World Records, his great age has been confirmed by the Portuguese government’s pet database, which is controlled by the National Union of Veterinarians.

History
He was born in an outbuilding and has lived with the Costa family in the village of Conqueiros, near Portugal’s west coast, his whole life.
Leonel Costa, who was 8 at the time, said that his parents had too many pets and had to put down the puppies, but Bobi got away.
Leonel and his siblings kept the dog a secret from their parents until they discovered him and fed him the same food.
According to Mr. Costa, who constantly soaks the meal in water to remove most of the flavor, Bobi chooses our dish over a can of animal food or a piece of meat. Since then, Guinness has crowned Bobi the oldest living dog and the oldest dog ever.

the key to his longevity
Mr. Costa claims Bobi has had a reasonably trouble-free existence, save from a scare in 2018 when he was hospitalized after abruptly falling owing to respiratory issues, and believes the key to his longevity is the “quiet, serene atmosphere” he lives in.
Bobi’s mother made it to age 18, so it may be genetic.
But, the time has taken its toll on Bobi, who now has difficulty walking and is losing his vision.
Bobi, according to Mr. Costa, is “the last in a long generation of animals” in the Costa family.
Only two weeks prior, Spike the Chihuahua, who is 23 years old, was recognized by Guinness World Records as the oldest living dog. Bobi is now the oldest dog in history.
Since then, Guinness has revised its records and declared Bobi to be both the oldest living dog and the oldest dog ever.
Fun Fact
According to the Guinness World Records, the smallest dog ever recorded was Miracle Milly, the Chihuahua. Born in 2011, Milly was a minuscule 3.8 inches tall and weighed in at one pound.
