“Oscar the cat” has ability to sense when someone nearing end of their life

Oscar was so accurate that doctors even conducted research to find answers. On top of that, he lived a remarkably long life.

Oscar was a male cat, one of six living at the Steere House Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Rhode Island, USA. He arrived there in 2005. After six months, despite initially keeping his distance from people, staff noticed he began sitting on the laps of elderly patients. Within two to three days, those patients would pass away.

At first, everyone thought it was just a coincidence, but over the next five years, Oscar repeated this behavior with 30 patients, and his accuracy only increased. It got to the point where, if staff saw Oscar near a patient, they would call the family to come and visit their loved one.

As the story gained attention, research was conducted, leading to a medical analysis that concluded: “It is highly likely that Oscar possesses a special ability to detect the scent of deteriorating cells in the human body.”

Oscar also lived a long life. He passed away in 2022 at the age of 18. Throughout his life, Oscar predicted the deaths of more than 100 patients. His legacy was so remarkable that renowned author Stephen King used him as inspiration for a character in his novel Doctor Sleep.

Funfact – The Ashera cat is the most expensive cat breed in the world, resulting from crossbreeding (between an African wildcat, an Asian leopard cat, and a domestic cat). It resembles a miniature leopard but is significantly larger than a typical house cat, weighing around 13 kilograms. When standing on its hind legs, it can reach up to 120 centimeters in height. A single Ashera kitten costs around 4,000,000 THB (approximately $110,000 USD).
